> BEING HUMAN - Support Sally's Latest Work!
Sally Sheinman is working with the National Trust at Mottisfont and the Sanger Institute in Cambridgeshire on a piece that is about celebrating people called BEING HUMAN. After all that is what we all are!
The National Trust has hundreds of volunteers and this aspect of the Trust was one of the influences on Sheinman’s latest piece.
The finished work will take the form of two, 200-foot long paper sculptures. One is made of approximately 25,000 pieces of hand-painted gold and hand-cut Japanese rice paper, which symbolize the number of genes believed to be in the human genome. This massive and beautiful gold paper chain is symbolic of what makes all humans.
The other sculpture represents the infinite possibilities of the individual. We all may come from a limited gene bank but the combinations and complexes of this code is what make all the difference. The Sanger Institute is helping the artist view the positive aspects of our shared genetic history. It comprises of over 700 drawings of the human form each one different from the other. These drawings sometimes show small subtle changes while others times are very dramatic. To finish the piece and involve the public the artist will be asking the viewer what makes you unique? And these responses will complete BEING HUMAN.
